God’s thoughts and ways isn’t our thoughts and ways PDF Print E-mail

Devotional text: Isaiah 55: 8-11 (NIV)

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways." As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Dear Friends

Thinking of our future takes a lot of planning and preparation throughout our whole lives as we save for those days when we might need to draw upon our resources just to survive the dry months of our lives. In our planning we become so preoccupied with the worldly things that we forget at times that we are dependable upon God’s grace from a day to day basis and when faced with difficulty we only then realize that we should have consulted with God on this matter, just as we would consult with our partners in business etc. Getting to know God’s thoughts on any subject enables us to deal with the problems and changing them into opportunities, since Isaiah clearly shares with us that God might have other plans with us than what we have anticipated. Dreaming helps, but only in consultation with God in an orderly and a realistic manner. It happens that we have decided to go into a certain occupational direction and as we continue with this part of our lives that God’s thoughts and ways is being reveal to us in a different manner. When this happen we become unsure of ourselves and whether we understood God’s thoughts correctly.

He allows us to study in one specific direction just for us to find out that in actual fact he wanted to use the knowledge that we have in a total different way, making it more fulfilling than our original plan. Isaiah teaches us by drawing an analogy using heaven and earth as an metaphor of how vast God’s plan for our lives is, we see only a small part of His plan which already confuses us can you just imagine how confused we would be when He revealed his whole plan and where is the trust in all of that, because without trusting God we tend to distrust the people whom God sends upon our lives path’s forgetting that it is through them that His plan for us is being brought to fulfilment. Therefore in bringing fulfilment to His promise it doesn’t mean that the direction in we decided to study will necessarily be the place where we end up, since we ain’t able to see his greater plan. God wants us to be obedient to his call in whatever direction it is heading and being obedient to His call means that we should trust Him to do the things that we ourselves isn’t able to do, thus we become painfully aware of the fact that we are limited to what we can do and therefore we need God our father who is willing and able to do the unformitable.

Can we make rain or snow at such a quantity that life is able upon the whole earth and enough so that everyone has got enough to eat. No, and yet we are called upon to do our bit while being reminded that God the creator has to intervene in order for that labour which we put in will become fruit-bearing. It might happen that although we did put a lot in we might not be successful, which at times discourage us, however once again we need to allow God to remind us why we haven’t been successful, knowing that it serves as a possible purpose to protect us down the road which we cannot see.

God’s promise and will for our lives never return to Him empty meaning that His Will, will come in being fulfilled. Since we are embarking on a journey with Him, he wants us to do the formidable while leaving the rest in His hands. This become very clear especially when you study in a certain direction only to find out that we needed to study in that direction for a totally different purpose than what we have anticipated, leading us back a couple of steps to deal with the issues that is holding us back in achieving His perfect will for our lives. At times it might be that the people who he wants to accompanying us on the road forward has to reach the point where we can work together for the greater purpose than what we have thought. Everything in life thus serves a purpose even when it seems as if it hasn’t got any purpose to serve, it only becomes clear to us later of the intensity of God’s plan for us when we desire serve Him on the greater perspectrum. God knows our abilities better than we know it and it is in this that we are challenged to look at our relationship with a fresh perspective.

May God reveal His thoughts and way for your life in a renewed manner in order for you to get excited again for what God is planning to do with your life and may you have peace and joy when you see his way after you have reached the point to understand God’s thoughts in a specific sphere of your life.

Amen
