Devotional Text: Matthew 7:24-27 (ESV)
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and great was the fall of it.
Dear Friends
The process of building a building entails a lot of specialized people. First there are the architects who design the building according to the needs of the owners. Then the environmentalists who examine the soil and the impact that such a building could have on the environment. Lastly, the engineers and building contactors foremen who oversees the whole project until it’s done.
One building that creates jobs for many and if such a project is a failure due to environmental elements the blame be put on one person only but the whole team who was involved in this project. Thus the environment shapes the plans of the building and that will determine the success because these are elements that are not controlled by people rather by the environmental changes which happens and sometimes with great disasters.
Jesus in his teaching associates building and the devastating effects of it to describe our lives, since our lives is a continuous building which acquires changes in the building plans as life toss us at times in all kinds of directions. For this reason the quality can only be determined by the good foundation that is laid. This foundation isn’t foundations that people only built, but it is a foundation, which Christ Jesus himself has laid and that is His purpose for your life. Therefore as the one who laid that foundation for your life he knows what is required and sends people along your way with expert advice and help building your life. In rejecting those co-workers of Christ and their advise causes us most of the time to experience the devastating effects, but we manage to remain standing because no other person can lay a better foundation than what Jesus Christ has already laid for you. People who do not hear His redeeming message will grab to anything hoping that it will hold them together. They will listen to their peers instead of hearing God’s heart since the noises that the storms created becomes so overbearing that they grab anything that is offered to them just to hold on. Just like all the other participants who played a vital role in your development has brought you to where you are, so will he send others and continue to send them and therefore it shouldn’t be a surprise to you when you experience people coming in and out of your life on regular intervals.
Know that as an engineer remains on site until the building has been completed, there will be people at your site who will remain with you for the duration of your life. Christ is the one who keeps us grounded and it is our faith that enables us to wither the storms and how we respond to what we hear will determine whether we are recognise the way forward. Jesus the architect of our life instructs the people he sends to us with the message of hope and that message is that in times of distress there is a way and plans are being made to enable you to see the light in your darkness days, for it is through people that his plan is revealed. And for that reason taking time to hear requires patience and willing heart.
Let Christ be your foundation today and allow him to send His people along your way, who is willing and able to mould you in becoming that building, that pillar in society that He has planned for you.
Lord Jesus Christ You are the architect, of our lives; we pray that you will send the right people with the right materials into our lives. Create in us Lord the structure that one building that is unique from all the rest and fill us with your Holy Spirit to strengthen us for the purpose of standing. Amen
